Today you will learn about the best man that ever lived. We already know that the prophets were the best from all the people. But our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) was the best from all the prophets. He was the most special person chosen by Allah.

Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) is the best and his story is also the best from all the prophets! By reading his story, we will learn how the best person ever lived!

The People of Makkah Make Plans

Islam was becoming stronger and stronger. More and more people were becoming Muslims. The people of Makkah wanted to do something to stop our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam). The leaders of Makkah had a meeting. They sent a person called Utbah to talk to our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam).

Utbah came and said that even though you come from a good family, you have made people fight. You say bad things about our idols and the people before us. Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) listened to everything he said and didn’t say anything.

Making a Deal

Utbah then wanted to make a deal with our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam). He said, “If you want people to become Muslim because you want money, then we will give you so much money that even the biggest leader from us will not have as much money as you do.”

He then said, “If you want to become a leader and want respect, then we will make you our leader. If you want to become a king, then we will make you a king. We will do anything you want.”

The Answer

After our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) heard what Utbah had to say, he asked him, “Have you finished saying what you wanted to say?”
Utbah said, “Yes.”
Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) said, “Listen carefully to what I have to say. I do not want any money and I do not want to be leader. I am the Messenger of Allāh and He has sent me to you. If you listen to what I have to say, then you will be successful and if you don’t then Allāh will do what He wants to. Then our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) read some Qur’an.

When our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) finished praying the Qur’an, he told Utbah that it was now up to him what he wanted to do.

Utbah left our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) and went back to the leaders of Makkah. It was like he was a different person.

Abu Jahl said, “Utbah seems like he is a different person. Utbah has left our religion.”

Utbah said, “I listened to the words of Muhammad and I have never heard anything like them. It is not like poetry and magic. It is something very special.”

He told them to leave our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam). He told them that if everyone starts to respect our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) then everyone will start to respect the people of Makkah because he is from their family.

The leaders said, “O Utbah, Muhammad has done magic on you and you are not making any sense.”

Utbah told them that this is what he thought and told them they can do what they want.

The People of Makkah Make Another Plan

The people of Makkah started to think of other ways to stop our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) from spreading Islam. They told him to stop saying bad things about their idols.

They then said that if you can’t stop saying bad things then you worship our idols for one year and we will worship your god for one year.

But our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) did not agree to any of this.

The people of Makkah were seeing that all their plans were failing. So they had to come up with another plan.

A New Plan

The people of Makkah sent some people to Yathrib. Another name for Madinah was Yathrib.

There were people in Yathrib who knew about a prophet that was going to come. They knew the signs of the new prophet.

The people of Makkah asked them how to find out if our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) was lying or not. They wanted to know if he was a real prophet or not.

The people of Yathrib told the people of Makkah to ask our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) 3 questions.

They said that if he answered 2 questions and stayed quiet on the third question then he is a true prophet.

Asking Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam)

They went back to Makkah and asked our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) the 3 questions.

Our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) hoped that Allah would tell him the answers. He told them to come the next day and he would have the answers to the question.

But our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) forgot to say InshaAllah. Instead of Allah telling him the answers the answers the next day, our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) had to wait for some days until he knew the answers.

We learn that before planning to do anything we should always say InshaAllah.

InshaAllah means “if Allah wants it to happen it will happen”. Everything that happens in the world, happens because Allah wanted it to happen. So whatever we plan to do will only happen if Allah wants it to. This is why we say InshaAllah.

After our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) answered the questions, the people of Makkah became even more worried. They hated our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) even more because they knew that more people will start to believe him.

Now their plan was to trouble and hurt our Prophet Muhammad (ṣallāllāhu ʿalayhī wa-sallam) so much that he stops calling people to Islam.
