Mawlānā Mahmud Rampuri said that once I and a Hindu collector once went to Deoband for some business. I was a guest at the house of Shaykh al-Hind Mawlānā Maḥmūd al-Ḥasan r and the Hindu later joined me and requested to spend the night here. He was given a bed. When everyone had gone sleep, I noticed Shaykh al-Hind made his way from his room. I thought to myself that if he does anything exhausting, I will assist him, otherwise why show that I am awake and inconvenience him. I then saw Shaykh al-Hind advance to the Hindu guest. He sat on his bed and began pressing his feet. The Hindu fell into an even deeper sleep and began snoring loudly. Mawlānā Mahmud says that I arose and said to Shaykh al-Hind that you don’t trouble yourself, I will press it. He replied saying that return to bed. He is my guest and I will serve him. I was forced to stay silent and he continued pressing his feet.
