How Islam Spread

The assertion of those who oppose Islām that it was spread by the sword has been answered by Ḥaḍrat Mawlānā Qāsim Nānotawī with a rather stinging rejoinder. He responds saying that a sword does not operate itself; it only functions when someone uses it. The question remains to who wielded this sword? The only explanation is that there was an external force which compelled these sword-wielders to unite. It was none other than the love for Rasūlullāh ﷺ which can be spelled in other words to ‘good conduct’. This was the condition of humans [that they were prepared to sacrifice their lives for the sake of Allah and his Messenger ﷺ]. On the occasion of the Farewell Ḥajj, when Rasūlullāh ﷺ was sacrificing his camels, every camel was competing with another to be the first to be sacrificed at his blessed hands. Whose sword compelled them to do this? This was all true love for Rasūlullāh ﷺ. Whoever holds true love for their beloved, they will be ever ready to give their lives away.
